S.A.R. Civil Station Yard Index
Scanned Index cards (alphabetical)
The SAR Civil Station Yard cards are an index that covers things like Station Yard plans, station buildings, other buildings at the location including services and all other improvements. When SAR or AN closed a station they moved the index from the Station Yard Index to the Closed Station Yard Index. When selecting an index section keep in mind whether the station was closed before about 1989. If closed before then the location will most likely be in the closed yard cards. The index cards hold a great deal of research information as it is a chronological listing of what was done. The drawing numbers also give dates as most of them had a size (D) followed by year (69) prefix. This was not the case with PH and DR drawing numbers though. Each set of cards cover any station yard that alphabetically falls within the span of the title locations. e.g. Balaklava would be found in the Angaston to Borrika set of cards.
